The Current State of Husker Affairs (According to Erin)

It’s been a good week for Husker Nation. No real rumors running rampant means we can focus on some of the more positive things…like the new Big Ten logo. Now that that jokes over, let’s get to the real Husker news.

    Legends and Leaders

When this was first announced, I sat and listened to so many people complain about it, knowing full well it would eventually grow on everyone. For instance, one of the biggest “Legends and Leaders” haters I knew finally said, “Well, you know, it’s actually not that bad.”

    Yep.

It’s a typical Big Ten move. Legends and Leaders are very…self promoting. But the Big Ten has the history and power to hold division names like these, so why not? If you can’t split a conference geographically, you might as well give them memorable names. It sure did get everyone talking.

And for the record, I’m happy Nebraska is in the Legends. Leaders are temporary (just go have a chat with Mack Brown about that one), where as Legends never die.

    Amukamara and Henery

Bo Pelini is really starting to show his strength in developing players. After six years with no first-team All-Americans, Nebraska regained footing with Ndamukong Suh. Just a year later, Nebraska adds two more members to the list (making it 95 players to date) with Alex Henery and Prince Amukamara.

If the two weren’t NFL bound before, they sure are now.

    Chattanooga

Nebraska completed its’ 2011 schedule today, adding the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga as the season opener on Saturday, September 3rd. And, to be expected, there have been some complaints. But can you blame Nebraska? The Big Ten is not making it an easy inaugural season for the Huskers, so a soft opener can’t hurt. Plus, we’re talking one really easy game on a schedule that is anything but. There really isn’t any room for complaining.

    Rudy Award

Nebraska fans have done it again. Proving that there is no place like Nebraska, Husker Nation tirelessly voted Alex Henery for the Rudy Award until he was finally declared a finalist. The winner will be announced in Dallas on January 11th.
