An Open Letter to Bo Pelini
Oh, Bo, you got me again.
You had me sitting around for nearly two days contemplating the future of my dear ol’ Nebraska U’s football program because you refused to comment. And I may or may not have been a little worried.
I wanted to believe that you wouldn’t up and leave, but I couldn’t help but think that maybe you actually would. I wasn’t sure why you would, and I came close to sending you a letter of reasons why you wouldn’t like Miami very much (Lebron James made the list, in case you were wondering). However, I worried that would possibly appear desperate and I didn’t want you to think you had all the power here.
But you do.
Husker Nation is in the palm of your hands. We know you’re a hot commodity and that you could up and leave any time you wanted. We don’t like it much, but we’ll live with it because we like you. And we sure as hell love that defense of yours.
I’ve always known you had your eye on that Ohio State job, Bo. I figured the day it opens up was the day you’d leave. I was okay with that and still am. But now I’m worrying about the day the Oklahoma job opens up…or hell, what about that Florida job open now? You never gave your commitment to Nebraska in your statement, you just said you weren’t interested in Miami.
And so I ask, now what? Well, I guess nothing. You’re still my head coach and what more should I be asking for? Whether you stay for one more year or 30, you’ve found yourself a place in Husker history. So keep on doing what you’re doing. Win the Holiday Bowl, take us to the Big Ten and keep rebuilding that program. If you give us your best, we’ll give you ours. That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it will always be.
But for the record, Florida is humid. You wouldn’t like it there. Plus, blue and orange are not your colors.
